how Magic is addressing the climate crisis

Too often, conversations about climate change sound like a stern lecture. But what if caring for the planet didn't feel like a heavy burden or a sacrifice? What if climate action felt like a celebration? What if being green was delicious?

At Magic Chocolate, we believe that true sustainability is about creating a food system that renews the earth while delivering moments of pure, unadulterated joy. Addressing the climate crisis requires grounded action and a bit of agricultural alchemy. We’re out here championing less finger-wagging, and more chocolate

turning cocoa farms into carbon sinks

When it comes to cooling the planet, nature already designed the ultimate climate technology: living forests and resilient soil. Industrial agriculture often strips landscapes, clear-cutting trees to plant flat monocultures that exhaust the earth and release stored carbon into the atmosphere. We choose a radically different path.

Through dynamic agroforestry, our farm partners cultivate cocoa trees within multi-layered forest canopies across 7,900 acres of regenerative organic farmland in West Africa. Beneath the canopy, nutrient-dense soil holds vital moisture and keeps the ground cool during periods of intense heat. Regenerative organic practices actively improve soil health by building organic humus. While it sounds like a delicious snack, humus (with one “M”) is the dark, spongy residue left behind when plants decompose. This living, nutrient-dense soil acts as a natural carbon sink, pulling atmospheric carbon dioxide down into the ground while making crops significantly more resilient against severe climate conditions.

By mimicking wild ecosystems, these farms build natural immunity against unpredictable weather cycles. It’s the best way to protect cocoa yields and surrounding biodiversity without synthetic fertilizers or sprays.

reducing footprints with plant-based oat milk

Taking on climate change requires examining every single ingredient in our supply chain. Traditional dairy production remains a primary driver of agricultural greenhouse gas emissions. A single dairy cow will emit 220 pounds of methane per year.

To lower our overall footprint while delivering a creamy milk chocolate experience, we developed our plant-based Magic Oat Milk Chocolate with delicious flavors like raspberry, salted candied hazelnut, hazelnut crunch and salted candied hazelnut layer.

Cultivating oats requires a fraction of the water and land needed for dairy cows, resulting in substantially lower emissions per bar. Combining plant-based ingredients with traditional Swiss chocolate-making techniques allows us to deliver a rich, smooth-tasting delight that respects the natural world.

from organic farms to carbon neutral Swiss chocolate factories

In order to be truly eco-friendly, we have to look at the entire life cycle of our chocolate, from seed to the finished bar in your hands. Once our shade-grown cocoa and unrefined coconut sugar leave the farms, they travel to Flawil, Switzerland, to be crafted into velvety confections.

Our manufacturing partner, Maestrani, has been pioneering exceptional chocolate-making since 1852. But their dedication to the craft goes far beyond tradition. Our bars are produced in a fully carbon-neutral facility powered entirely by hydroelectric energy. From the biodiverse canopies in Ghana and Ivory Coast to the clean energy powering Swiss copper kettles, every step of our supply chain is designed to minimize our footprint and maximize ecological integrity. It is end-to-end climate action.

We know consumers are tired of greenwashing, those vague, self-congratulatory claims that look nice on a shiny package but lack real accountability. That’s why we back our commitments with rigorous, third-party standards that walk the walk.

As creators of the world's first Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC) chocolate bar, we meet the highest global standards for soil health, farmworker fairness, and ecosystem renewal. Together with USDA Organic, Fair for Life, and Non-GMO Project Verified certifications, these independent benchmarks ensure that our climate claims are grounded in verifiable, positive impact. This approach directly supports more than 2,500 cocoa farmers and 10,000 community members across our supply chains, proving that climate resilience and human flourishing are two sides of the same coin. When farmers thrive, ecosystems thrive.
